How to use the Economic Calendar

  • 1Check high-impact events — red-flagged news (NFP, CPI, rate decisions) typically causes the biggest volatility. Consider reducing exposure 30 min before and after.
  • 2Compare actual vs forecast — the bigger the surprise, the larger the likely market reaction. Use the Previous column as a baseline.
  • 3Focus on your pairs — if you trade EUR/USD, watch EU and US events. Filter by country to remove noise from unrelated economies.
  • 4Set alerts — pair the calendar with price alerts on your broker platform so you never miss a scheduled release.
